it takes an average person 10 years of doing something before he can start to create. ie. make improvements to the craft, or induce paradigm shifts.
mihaly csziksentmihalyi #googletwicestillforgetsname introduced this cogent point to me while he was talking about flow, and living in the moment on ted.com. he presented that happiness lies in having flow, or having situations where there are high level challenges and you have the high level of skill to tackle the problem.
so many creators/ geniuses/ masters of their craft experience out-of-body moments while in the midst of creating because they have flow, to the extent that their whole being is devoted to that experience, and they can go long periods of times without sleeping/eating/peeing.
in contrast, you have apathy when there is a low level of skill to meet low level challenges. ie. taking a dump/ studying for things youve no interest in.
gets you thinking. while i dont think i have apathy, i definitely got me no flow neither.
apart from uni and its extra curricular activities, i love to read/draw/sing/dance/sleep/play piano/ watchvideosonline/learn new things/go do volunteer work. i used to think that trying to order your passions/ hobbies/ past times is restrictive on yourself, but now i find that without some sort of structure i end up doing most of them sporadically, and just... watching lots of videos and sleeping. lol!
might be a bad time to be thinking about all this during the run up week to exams, but i suppose thats the time when your mind strays the most too and you find a lot of stuff like this in your brain.
side note, ive recently discovered this blog article14.blogspot.com that talks about singapore's judiciary system, and i highly encourage sgeans to take a look, cos he really makes info about our system accessible, and in the most unbiased light i have read thus far.found it while searching up on sg media laws. tried to have a discussion about it with my parents (media law in sg, i mean) but they have more of a teological bent when it comes to ethics in sg's system. my dad started off about the importance of sg's stability and mom called me naive to think that any political party would sit back and do nothing when i brought up jb jerayatnam's case. still, it sucks if you were made bankrupt by ANYONE, let alone by trying to fight for change.
